Reign stands over the pool, her face a mask of calm analysis. Jonathan is in a panic. JONATHAN Who did this? Was it Rex’s crew? REIGN No. This wasn’t them. This was a message. The door buzzes. Det. Vance enters with two uniformed officers and a warrant. He has a smug, triumphant look on his face. VANCE Good morning. Got a call about a disturbance. Looks like I came to the right place. As his officers secure the scene, Vance walks around the apartment, his eyes scanning everything. He’s not just investigating; he’s looking for something. Reign watches him. She notices his gaze linger on a bookshelf. After he moves on, she walks over to it. She runs her hand along the spines of the books. Her fingers brush against something small, metallic, and cold, tucked deep behind a row of classics. It’s a high-end, military-grade listening device. The body wasn’t the message.
